(And here is the lead editorial in The Boston Globe today. In how many cities does baseball garner front-page and lead editorial space in December? And this is far from the first time. Pitchers and catchers report two months from tomorrow . . .)

The New Monster
Who is this Daisuke Matsuzaka fellow? John Powers has a feature on the man who since childhood has had the nickname "The Monster." Sox fans know that our original "Monster" (excluding the "Green Monster," naturally) will always be Dick Radatz, the burly fireballing reliever from the early 1960s, but we are willing to share.

I actually would like to see him third to relieve some of the pressure. I doubt they'll try to rotate the pitchers like they did last year. i think they will line up the five best guys but might bury Daisuke a bit to alleviate the pressure. If he is the best guy in the rotation at the All Star Break, a shuffled rotation will reflect that. With all of the off days in April, the order of the rotation is largely symbolic anyway. The biggest key is that they will want him to get his starts.
The Thunderstick and I were talking the other day -- imagine if we signed Clemens and went with a six-man rotation through the dog days of the seaosn to keep the three older guys fresh? I cannot see that hapening for the long-term, but they certainly would love Clemens and Schill on one extra day with an eye toward September and October.
We just traded for Donnelly today -- he's 36, but it will be interesting to see where they think they might be able to slot him in the pen. I also wonder if our April closer will be our September closer -- surely they hope MDC/Hansen is going to be in place to do something by then. Their development will be huge.
Cheers --
