Leon Powe and Hoop Dreams

Shira Springer of the Boston Globe has a compelling feature on the Celtics' roookie forward Leon Powe. Springer shows how Powe is the sort of kid who overcame all sorts of awful odds, then faced a catastrophic injury for a basketball player, yet has emerged as a potential player in the NBA. The Celtics teem with young talent, and after reading this, Powe is one of the members of this youth movement for whom I will be rooting especially hard.
