Abolish the Electoral College

Jonathan Chait argues what so many of us have long felt: we've got to abolish the Electoral College. Liek Chait, I cannot think of a single good reason for the EC's existence. Not one. I'll entertain arguments, but my suspicion is that I won't hear any good ones. And while the failings of the Electoral College were part of the nightmare that was 2000 let me be clear -- it will not be fair or just or smart or justifiable when a Democrat wins the EC but loses the popular vote either.
