Pats-Colts

Odds are good this won't be the last mention of a little football game coming up this Sunday night between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. Ron Borges of the Boston Globe has a savvy early take on what we might see. All signs point to an offensive slugfest, which probably means we'll see a 17-14 game. In all likelihood the winner is headed for home field throughout the playoffs, but whichever team loses is still well-positioned to win their division. The game is in Foxborough, which should be of more than a little aid to the Pats. There are some saying that the Patriots do not belong in the same breath with the Colts (I'm talking to you Bill Platschke). Because apparently Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have no idea how to deal with the unstoppable Colts offense and the indomitable Peyton Manning.

Surely an unrelated tidbit: Peyton Manning is 1-6 against Tom Brady in head-to-head matchups. Since 2001 the Patriots have won three Super Bowls. The Colts have yet to experience playing in one.

GoodLib --
Obviously I am not about to say that the Pats are going to win, but your analysis is spot-on, and it just seems to me that in a big game with the Colts when the Pats are not exactly slouches, you should never count New England out.
What I always love, though, is that Belichick will always attack a team's strength, not its weaknesses. It would not surprise me at all if they come out passing instead of running and if they don't make Manning beat them.
I understand that it is getting cold up in New England too.
I agree that the Bears might be the most intriguing matchup -- I'm not fully sold on them yet because they have not really played anyone, and I don't hold most of the NFC in very high regard, but that D is impressive and the fact that thay have balance and bring an offense is impressive. It's another Foxborough game, which seems to me to be to the advantage of a New England team that by then will be positioning itself for home field.
