Blood Diamonds Run Dry?
A recent report indicates that the spread (and thus human costs of) "conflict diamonds," or "blood diamonds," has declined. Industry giant DeBeers partially funded the study, so I tend to be wary, especially as some of the other concerns that the report lists seem to be boosterish for the industry, but if true, this is good news. Chalk one up for awareness raising and subsequent policymaking to address the pernicious spread of blood diamonds. (And yes, I am looking forward to the movie.)
