KC Johnson and Duke Lacrosse

It has been awhile since I have written anything about the Duke lacrosse situation, which continually amazes with the utter impropriety of Mike Nifong and the Durham prosecutor's office. Part of the reason for my silence is that KC Johnson has done such great work in doggedly pursuing the story. Now KC has a blog, Durham-in-Wonderland that is pretty much the only place you need to go if you want to know the pathetic state of affairs in Dookieville. (Hat tip to Ralph Luker at Cliopatria.)

Obviously much has changed since my first post on this issue. Although I warned against a rush to judgment, I also assumed that the basic outline of events was correct -- that there had been a rape, that there was a culture of privilege and lawlessness in the Duke lax program (still not entirely off the table), and that the race issue was the most noxious element of the whole sordid affair. It looks more and more as if this was a witch hunt, and while there is plenty of blame to go around, most of it should fall squarely on the shoulders of that irresponsible blowhard, Nifong.
