The Departed as a Boston Movie

The Boston Globe editorial page argues that The Departed deserved the Oscar for Best Picture (it certainly did) but that the South Boston depicted therein is not reflective of reality. Interestingly, the Globe reserved some plaudits for Good Will Hunting's depiction of the city. The Departed and Good Will . . . are two of my favorite Boston feature films of recent years, along with Mystic River.

You always told me that your favorite Boston movie in recent history was Fever Pitch because, according to you, "Jimmy Fallon is so cute, I could just eat him up." It must have just been an oversight that you didn't put that one in this post.

Thunderstick -- you so crazy!

Actually, on principle I refused to see fever Pitch both because after it was clear the Sox were going to win, they changed the plot (I supoose out of necessity) and somehow allowed the crew and those tow dimwitted actors onto the field even as the Sox celebrated, and because Fallon grew up in New York as a fan of THAT team. Or as much of a fan as that little twigboy was inclined to be.

I watched it on the plane coming back from Ireland because nothing else was on. It was awful. I mean Sox fans are crazy, but they are portrayed like they are retarded donkeys in that movie. I'm watching it thinking "no fan of any team acts like this." It was terrible and should be burned.
