Whither Cleveland '64?

With the Indians making a serious run at the Wild Card (and the ChiSox faltering to the point where the division should not be ruled out) and the Browns' season about to begin, I am curious when we are going to see a damned update on Cleveland '64. I am not a fan of any Cleveland teams, but, inexplicably, I know that some people are. DCAT requests -- nay, DEMANDS -- something from our Washington correspondent if not there, then here.

Funny that you ask, but a "State of Cleveland Sports/Browns Preview" has been percolating in the wasteland of my broken Cleveland Sports Fan heart for the last few days. It will be here before the start of the season.

Funny, but not "ha ha" funny. Or at least I don't get it.

Boston is in the midst of a great phase, no doubt about it. But as far as complaining goes, I will say that it seems that fans of Boston teams were expected to become simpering wimps and somehow were told not to care deeply about sports any more after last October, which is nonsense. No one has ever asked that from fans in other successful sports cities.
Sox are in control of their own destiny right now afterw eathering the Yankees latest run, and of course the Pats are in charge until someone takes it from them, though thay have a killer schedule this year. Now it's time for the C's to take the next step, and for Jumbo Joe Thornton to lead the B's to a Stanley Cup.
As for BC, it is hard to get a sense of how good they will be. They are ranked a respectable 22nd in both major polls right now, but most preseason magazines have them as the 40th best team or so. I do not believe thay are that low. I also can llook at their schedule and see a lot of potential wins. It would be nice to see the Big East teams make serious noise this year in the ACC. First up, however, is what should be a tough matchup against BYU.

Steve --
Good to have you aboard, and keep us up to date on goings on at OU and in Athens. Yours is not the couch I'll likely be crashing on upon returns to SE Ohio.
Do not underestimate Joe Thornton, espevcially with the recent upheaval in the NHL that has every team looking far different from what they did a year and change ago.
And don't underestimate the posasibility of Boston sports doiminance -- they certainly did not sweep, and in fact only won one championship, but recall 1986 -- all four Boston teams went to the finals, with the Celtics winning.
As for Cleveland, they have a lot of good fanes, but a lot of the OU fans were the worst kind. Nonetheless, you are at an interesting crossroads, with lots of Cinci famns, though more Cleveland fans. No one cares about the Crew, but you will find that despite a DI sports program, there are more (or at least mnore visible) Ohio State fans that Bobcat fans on campus.
Enjoy, and keep us up to date.

Steve,

As a former resident of Athens (and current resident of Columbus) I can say that although OU isn't a DI hockey team, watching the games is still pretty exciting. Especially if you can watch them from the penalty box like I usually did. You should check them out if you have a chance. And the Blue Jackets will definitely be more interesting this year. But I'll probably get to that myself later.
