London 2012

Perhaps sounding something of a note of contrarianism, Anne Applebaum argues in The Washington Post that compared to the Beijing Olympic games, those in London "will be a lot less sinister, a lot less damaging and a lot more fun." (She forgets to mention: Buttloads more expensive to attend.)

i can only say what i always say to people, ' all the communist faults of china, will be humiliated by the democratic equality of the worlds first democracy'.
london will let the people in, will make it a games of unity, and welcome all.
we will also not force our athletes to apologise for loetting the nation down, if he gets a bronze when he should have got gold, as china did.

Danny --
1) If that's what you always say to people, I imagine they must stop and place coins in your tin cup, which must be nice.
2) Yeah, because the Brits are so notoriously generous to the failings of its athletes.

why have you deleted that comment aswell? i posted this before you told me you would take my posts away. whenever you are proved wrong, you delete tyhe comment. it is pityful really, and you can delete this-well, you will, and you can say all you want, or think it, but you are self delusional and obnoxious.

Danny --
Because here is what I wrote on the other post in the comments:

"Do not reply to this comment. If you do, you're done commenting here. I will delete every comment that comes across my desk. Let. It. Go."

You then replied to that comment against my explicit request. Thus I have deleted every comment since. Do you undetstand now? You comment here contingent on following a few rules. One of them is that when I say a comnversation is over on an old issue that has nothing to do with the post at hand, it is over. Period. No lingering, no getting the last word, no rationalization or explanation. Another is that you need to settle yourself down about the all encompassing brilliance of Danny McNay. There are enough people here who read who are accomplished and succesful, many with degrees in history. The last thing they want is some high school kid coming in and pontificating on things he does not understand anywhere near as well as he thinks he does.

If you don't like my rules, by all means, don't read my blog. I welcome your reading and your occasional, but scaled back, commentary. Kapisch?

ok, i understand why you may delete comments of old posts, but you deleted one if this particular comment, but maybe that was accidental.
first of all, i do not see myself as great, for greatness is not defined by intelect, but by achievement, and what ever i achieve will define me, but i will wait years for that to happen.
yes, i am in secondary shool, but it should not define on intelect.
also, you can not possably claim to understand what i know, and to what extent, you can not possably know what i know, whereas i do.
just so you know, this comment has not been posted maliciously, but i ask you not to read my comments, and search for faults, and read them, set on finding faults, hoping not to agree with me, or accept, for a momnent, i may be right, and you not always right, for it seems to be you who believes you are great, but i can not know for sure, but i am sure that you can not hold similar judgements over me. full stop.

Danny --
I'm going to respond to this post, and then I am going to tell you: If you do not stick to the topic of posts from here on out, I will delete those posts. in other words: this post is about London 2012. Your comments are about Danny McNay. Only Danny McNay gives a fuck about Danny McNay. Stcick to the topic of the post. Other people reading this simply could not care less about your resume.
There was no accident with regard to deleing your posts. When I told you that I would delete your comments if you wrote another word on that post when you once again brought up that old Zimbabwe post on another blog, I meant every comemnt that you try to post here, whether on that post or otherwise. And I mean it still -- I am giving you another chance, but if you do not adhere to the standards I am laying out, you are done here.
Finally, Danny, I do know what you don't know. I do n
know what it takes to get a BA, an MA, and a PhD. I know what college students, good and bad know. I know what professional historians do and don't do. Yes, Danny, I do know what you don't know. I spent time teaching in a summer program for very talented high school students, students i will guarantee are every bit as smart as you are, who were every bit as well read as you are, and they still did not know all that much. the difference is that they did not assert that they knew much, and they sure as hell did not hint or outright say to professional historians that they had these vast reservoirs of knowledge that the professor could not in any way possibly grasp. You might be the greatest history student in all of the United Kingdom. You know what that makes you relative to, say, any halfway decent recent graduate with a history undergraduate degree? Out of your depths.
So yes, I can make judgments. Stick to the topic of the posts and you are done. You've had your say here. Once again: Let it go, and weigh in only when you have something relevant to say about the posts. I am going to promise you right now -- because enough of the readers here have told me as much -- you mthink you are engaged in some brilliant back and forth. In fact, you look like a fool to people who also tend to know what a fool looks like, many of whom are also either historians, in grad school, or otherwise are well aware of how silly it is for you to assert your profound depths of historical knowledge. They too know what you don't know, because part of the process of getting a doctorate is to develop a deep understanding of what is out there to be known.

many people do care about danny mcnay's thoughts, other than he, i'll just point that out. also, you do not know what i know, it is impossable, you do not even know where i live, what i look like, my politial views, and what i know historically. you know as much about me as i know about you. other than that, it was a good comment you replyed with. when i saw the length, i expected a rant about how i was stupid, you were smart and i was completely wrong, but i was impressed this time.
i will stick to topics at hand if i must. sorry.
thankyou, danny mcnay.

Ok, Danny. Let us parse the things you have said:

Your wods will be in quotation marks. mine will be preceded by ***:

"many people do care about danny mcnay's thoughts, other than he, i'll just point that out."

*** Really? Many people? Other than he? Do they?

"also, you do not know what i know, it is impossable, you do not even know where i live, what i look like, my politial views, and what i know historically."

*** Specifically do I know the myriad fucktarded things you think? Maybe not. Not in order. Do I well know the myriad things you do not know? Yes. Yes I do. I can preach historiography you had no idea existed.

"you know as much about me as i know about you."

*** Nope. I'm not writing about your blog. And you've never taught anyone my age while I have taught people your age.

"other than that, it was a good comment you replyed with. when i saw the length, i expected a rant about how i was stupid, you were smart and i was completely wrong, but i was impressed this time."

*** You're right. i must be crazy. being impressed by you = awesome.

"i will stick to topics at hand if i must. sorry."

Yeah, sorry to ask you to write about the topics that the post covered. Better to hear about your very interesting rantings about the federalists.

"thankyou, danny mcnay."
