Tootle Bait

Robert Samuelson has an op-ed on one of Tootle's bete noirs, bumper stickers and politics, at The Washington Post.

I'll take it! As you know, my bumper sticker theory is more about how political ideas must be reduced down to a bumper sticker if they are going to be understood or effective; if your message is more complicated it will be misunderstood or used against you in a campaign.

I assumed you'd hate the argument he makes precisely because you loathe the reductionism of bumper sticker politics (and really most everything that tries to reduce something complex to a bumper sticker.) Of course that excludes "I Miss Ike. Hell, I even miss Harry."

Every so often I'll see a truck that looks like it, and a few weeks ago I saw one with the same exact configuration -- I actually went to look for the bumper stickers.

I'll always remember that cross country road trip we took in it.
