Adelaide Frances Tambo, the widow of former African National Congress president Oliver Tambo,
died on Wednesday night. She was 77. A heroine of the movement in her own right, Ma Tambo, as she was affectionately known, began working for the African National Congress as a courier in 1944 and devoted her entire adult life to the struggle against apartheid and the creation of a democratic society.
